Stranded people in troubled Afghanistan arrived by a special repatriation flight of the Indian Air Force

The Health Ministry has ordered mandatory 14-day quarantine at Chhawla camp for people coming from Afghanistan, even if their RT-PCR report is negative. The government has specified that ‘considering the nature of the crisis, the ministry has already allowed exemption from mandatory pre-boarding RT-PCR testing of rescuers.

As per the instructions, those who test positive will be shifted to COVID care centres. ITBP will make all arrangements for transportation, it said.

A hospital official says two people who returned from Afghanistan were tested positive for Covid-19, have no symptoms and have been admitted to Delhi’s LNJP Hospital.

India launched a complex evacuation mission on 16 August by airlifting 40 Indians from Kabul to Delhi, a day after the Taliban captured the Afghan capital city. India has so far evacuated over 800 people amid the deteriorating security situation in Kabul and the scuffle by various countries to save its citizens.

Thousands of Afghans have been crowding around Kabul airport for more than a week, in a desperate attempt to flee the country for fear of Taliban brutality.
