Manchester City survived a spirited Leicester City fightback to seal a thrilling 6-3 win on Sunday, their ninth consecutive Premier League victory that saw them clear the top of the standings by six points. Spurs themselves remained in the hunt after beating Crystal Palace 3-0. He got a boost when West Ham United lost 3–2 to Southampton. After playing two more matches than both clubs, the London club are behind Spurs and one point ahead of Manchester United on 28 points.

With second-placed Liverpool not in action after their clash with Leeds United was postponed due to COVID-19 cases at the Yorkshire club, City appeared out of sight during the first half at the Etihad Stadium.

The in-form champion ran through Belgian midfielder Kevin de Bruyne into a fifth-minute lead before Riyad Mahrez put the hosts in control nine minutes later.

Things went from bad to worse for the Leicester side, struggling to repeat last season’s form, with Ilke Gundogan and another penalty, converted by Raheem Sterling, giving the hosts a four-goal lead within 25 minutes.

Despite looking dead and buried, Leicester threatened to derail the league leaders in the second half as goals from James Maddison, Ademola Lukman and Kelechi Ihenacho.

Aymerick Laporte’s 69th-minute header and Sterling’s subsequent seconds took the champions over the line, however, as they advanced 47 points from 19 matches, six clear of Liverpool. Leicester slipped to 10th place.
