Hyderabad: A man allegedly poured diesel on a Tahsildar During a protest after a group of farmers and others burnt themselves with fuel in Telangana’s Medak district on Tuesday, police said.
He said that the incident took place in the Tehsildar’s office premises in Shivampet mandal.
A group of farmers from Talapalli Tanda (hamlet) gathered in front of the Tehsildar’s office on Tuesday and protested after a fellow farmer died of electrocution on Monday, police said.
He alleged that the Tehsildar had not issued a “pattadar” (land ownership) passbook to the deceased farmer for his agricultural land and claimed that due to which he could not get life insurance under the state government’s scheme for farmers.
In a video clip, a group of people can be seen gathering and protesting in front of the office, while one of them is seen allegedly pouring diesel on himself and later on the tehsildar from a bottle, though Others immediately pull him back.
The Tehsildar told TV channels that a man doused himself with diesel and poured fuel on it too.
Regarding the dharna, the Tehsildar said that for the last three years, there was a demand to issue Pattadar passbook for agricultural land.
However, the land in question (of the deceased farmer) was in dispute over the boundaries with the forest land, he said.
After verification of records a report was sent to the Collector and the matter was being investigated. Collector also discussed with him Forest Department And accordingly passbook will be issued.
A police officer said a case was registered under relevant sections of the IPC, including attempt to murder, following a complaint from the tehsildar, though no one was taken into custody.
On saying that the person who poured diesel on the Tehsildar was a farmer, the official said that the matter is being confirmed.
In November 2019, a man allegedly set fire to a female tehsildar at his office in Abdullahpurmet here over a land dispute.
The Tehsildar’s driver also died of burns while trying to save his life. The assailant later succumbed to severe burns.
