Man gets life imprisonment for murdering friend in Coimbatore | Coimbatore News – Times of India

COIMBATORE: The first additional district judge court on Thursday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering his friend in a drunken brawl at singanallur in Coimbatore in May 2019.
S Subban, 31, of Mandya in Karnataka, who is settled at Singanallur in Coimbatore, was a construction worker. His friend N Sakthivel alias Kathir, 30, of Neelikonampalayam was also working with him. They were close friends and often visited a Tasmac liquor outlet at Singanallur.
On May 15, 2019, the duo went to a Tasmac bar where Subban asked Kathir to pay for the liquor. But Kathir replied that he didn’t have enough money to pay for Subban’s drink. They were involved in a verbal quarrel, and Subban made some remarks about Kathir’s mother. In a fit of rage, Kathir assaulted Subban and pushed him down. He took a stone and smashed Subban’s head with the stone. Subban was taken to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where doctors declared him dead.
The Singanallur police registered a case against Kathir under section 294 (b) and 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. They arrested Kathir. He was lodged at the Coimbatore Central Prison. The trial was held before the first additional district judge court. Special public prosecutor Sivaramakrishnan appeared on behalf of the victim’s side.
Judge S agarajan pronounced the verdict on Thursday.
