Man from Madhya Pradesh accused of setting fire to 3 houses, vandalizing temple

When Bunty came out on bail on Thursday, he allegedly set three houses on fire.

A man has been charged with allegedly setting three houses on fire and vandalizing a temple in a single day in Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa district.

On January 5, Bunty Upadhyay allegedly attacked Shaukat Ali under the influence of alcohol. The police arrested him and sent him to jail.

When Bunty came out on bail on Thursday, he set fire to three houses including Shaukat’s house. He allegedly thrashed Shaukat’s sister Kamroon Bi with a rubber pipe.

He later torched an auto at Chandrakanta’s house – all residents of Kodia Hanuman temple in Khandwa district.

However, Muslim families alleged that they were attacked because of their religious identity, as the accused had threatened to leave the area a day before the incident.

Baljit Singh, an inspector at Kotwali police station, said that Deepak, also known as Bunty, has an extensive criminal record in 28 cases against him. Of these, six offenses were registered in just two days.

“He got into a fight with two families and beat them up. Then in the night, he set fire to Shaukat Ali’s closed house, an auto-rickshaw in Salim Beg and Chandrakanta’s backyard. He also broke a Shiv-Parvati of the locality. A temple in which a case has also been registered.”
