Man arrested for stealing UPS batteries from ATM centers in Coimbatore | Coimbatore News – Times of India

COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore city police arrested a man on Wednesday for stealing more than ten UPS (uninterruptible power supply) batteries from ATM centers here.
The arrested man has been identified as S Senthilkumar, 45, of Sengadu at Pappanaickenpalayam in Coimbatore city. The police said Senthilkumar had pursued BSc (computer science) and completed a certificate course on hardware engineering. He was running a computer service center and was facing huge losses in his business.
On February 1, UPS batteries were stolen from a private bank’s ATM center at Singanallur. Four days ago, two UPS batteries were stolen from an ATM center of a nationalized bank. Similar cases were reported from singanallur and Ramanathapuram police station limits in Coimbatore city in the last one month.
Singanallur investigation wing sub-inspector Karthik and team collected the CCTV footages from the various ATM centers and arrested Senthilkumar on Wednesday. He told the police that after facing huge losses in his business, he started to steal UPS batteries from ATM centres. He used to select the ATM centers where there were no security guards. He used to visit ATM centers during the day in the name of UPS battery maintenance check.
He removed at least one or two batteries and took them away. People who visited the ATM centers to withdraw money did not suspect his activities. He sold the stolen batteries for Rs 1000 -Rs 1500. The Singanallur police seized around ten batteries from him.
He was remanded in judicial custody and lodged in Gobichettipalayam sub-jail.
