Coimbatore: Coimbatore Police has arrested a 47-year-old man, who was collecting ‘bribes’ from traders in the city posing as an officer of the Food Safety Department.
The accused has been identified as 47-year-old M Shivakumar of Anna Nagar near Neelakonampalayam.
Food safety officials had recently received complaints from traders from different parts of the city that an official of the department was extorting ‘bribe’ from them.
Food safety officials, who were waiting to catch the accused red-handed, got information about him from a trader in Sovaripalayam on Tuesday. food safety officer ,FSO) For singanallur Kshetra P Somkumar reached the spot and caught the accused with the help of the employees of Maha Ishwari Stores.
