West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday reached Bogatui village, where eight people were burnt alive earlier this week, and spoke to the families of those killed. She took a helicopter from Dumurjola Stadium in Howrah and landed at a helipad near the village amid tight security.

Before Mamata Banerjee reached Rampurhat, the BJP slammed the TMC for “embellishing” the city to welcome her on the chief minister’s visit, aimed at taking stock of the situation after the violence.
“The local TMC unit in Birbhum’s Rampurhat is ready to welcome a shameless Mamata Banerjee. She is believed to be visiting to take stock of the horrific massacre in which several women and children were burnt alive by people close to her regime. This is cruel, inhuman…,” BJP’s Amit Malviya said in a tweet.

Birbhum Violence
Eight people, including three women and two children, were killed in an arson following the killing of Bhadu Sheikh, the deputy head of the gram panchayat, at Bogtui village in Rampurhat town of West Bengal’s Birbhum district on Monday, March 20.

At least 21 people have been arrested so far in connection with the incident and several police personnel and civil volunteers have been removed on grounds of negligence.
Event kicked off a political row With the opposition BJP denying the ruling-TMC’s claims that it is a local dispute that has no political connection. The BJP has demanded imposition of President’s rule in the state, citing the continuous violence after the elections.
