West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday reached Bogatui village, where eight people were burnt alive earlier this week, and spoke to the families of those killed. She took a helicopter from Dumurjola Stadium in Howrah and landed at a helipad near the village amid tight security.

Eight people, including three women and two children, were killed in an arson following the killing of Bhadu Sheikh, the deputy head of the gram panchayat, at Bogtui village in Rampurhat town of West Bengal’s Birbhum district on Monday, March 20.

At least 21 people have been arrested so far in connection with the incident and several police personnel and civil volunteers have been removed on grounds of negligence.
