Difficult may arise in front of West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee. If she is not elected MLA in the next 90 days, she may have to leave the CM’s chair. She can remain in office for six months without becoming an MLA. It’s been three months for him.

In view of this problem, a delegation of Trinamool leaders met state Chief Electoral Officer Ariz Aftab in Kolkata on Friday and urged for early bypolls. Elections are to be held on seven seats in the state. Mamata Banerjee needs to be elected MLA by November 5. TMC General Secretary Partha Chatterjee said that CEO Aftab was requested to fix the date of election at the earliest so that pending elections can be held. He said that the situation of corona in the state is under control, so it would be appropriate to hold elections now.

Chatterjee said that elections are to be held for two seats in the state and by-elections for five assembly seats are to be held at the earliest. Partha Chatterjee said that the Chief Electoral Officer has assured him that work is going on in this regard. According to constitutional provisions, Banerjee is required to be elected a member of the Legislative Assembly within six months of taking oath.

After the meeting, the TMC leader said that nearly three months have passed since the assembly election process was over. We sought to know from the CEO what steps have been taken for the pending elections and by-elections. Apart from Chatterjee, the delegation included Subrata Mukherjee, Chandrima Bhattacharya and Shashi Panja.

Let us tell you, during the West Bengal Assembly elections held in April-May, Mamata Banerjee had contested from Nandigram. There Suvendu Adhikari of BJP defeated him in a tough contest. Now Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee can once again contest from her traditional Bhawanipur seat in Kolkata. It was vacated by TMC candidate Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay after winning the seat.
