Mamata urges Supreme Court to take suo motu cognizance in Pegasus case

Claiming that the central government had also tapped his phone with the help of Pegasus, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief. Mamata Banerjee On Wednesday, the BJP was dubbed a ‘high loaded virus party’.

Delivering her speech virtually at TMC’s annual Martyrs’ Day rally (Ekusi July) from her Kalighat residence in south Kolkata, Mamata urged the Supreme Court (SC) to take suo moto cognizance of phone tapping or spying on judges, ministers did. , political leaders, journalists, etc.

Mamata urged the Supreme Court, “Sir, I have a humble request to you… Please take suo motu cognizance against the Center in this matter as the judges’ phones were also tapped.”

Emphasizing on the importance of unity among opposition party leaders to prevent BJP from coming back to power in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he said, “I don’t know what will happen in 2024 but we have to start preparing for it now. They are tapping our phones (pointing to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi). Look (flashing his cell phone) I tapped his (cell phone) camera because Pegasus is dangerous. I would like to request senior leaders like Sharad Pawarji to organize a meeting (of opposition leaders) in Delhi as I will be in the national capital from July 27 to July 29.

“We cannot waste time and we need to work against BJP in view of 2024 elections. ‘Azadi khatron mein hai’ (freedom is in danger) because of the BJP government at the Centre. I would like to tell them that ‘abar khela ho’ (there will be a game once again). We should now unite for the interest of the country and the interest of the people here.

Pointing to PM Modi, he said, ‘I have full respect for his chair. But sometimes I wonder if he is aware of what Amit Shah is doing, or is Amit Shah doing it without anyone’s advice. It is shameful that PM Modi described Uttar Pradesh as the best state where dead bodies are floating on the river Ganga. We all know what was PM Modi’s Gujarat model…I don’t want to expose it. During the election, they pitted all central forces against us to capture Bengal, but I want to thank my dear people of Bengal for giving them a befitting reply.

“Our country is passing through emergency period due to poor governance of Amit Shah and Modi ji. They failed to deal with the Covid-19 situation. They failed to control the price rise. They want to capture the judges through Pegasus. They want to capture the ministers. They want to capture the opposition leaders. They want to capture the media house. They want to capture everyone through ‘spygiri’. It is unfortunate that in a democratic country like India, people like Shah and Modi are engaged in surveillance. So, come together to save our country as we have only two and a half years left (for the Lok Sabha elections of 2024). I felt that the alliance will not work just before the elections and hence, we have to work on Mission 2024 from now on. I will remain as a worker and follow your instructions but before that let’s come together and fight against this dangerous government at the Centre.

It was the 28th year of ‘Shahid Diwas’. On July 21, 1993, 13 laborers were killed in police firing during a rally on Mayo Road in Kolkata. It was celebrated to commemorate the martyrdom of 13 political activists along with other martyrs killed during the Left Front rule.

Mamta’s virtual speech was broadcast live in Varanasi, Mirzapur, Lucknow, Bareilly and Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh.

His speech was also telecast live in Gujarat, Tripura, Delhi, Bihar and Tamil Nadu. Hundreds of giant screens were put up at all important intersections in West Bengal and other states where people can see and hear Mamata Banerjee.
