Mamata hopes to win by ‘50,000 votes’, BJP hopes too

West Bengal is gearing up for the counting of bypolls, especially for Kolkata’s Bhawanipur constituency on which the Chief Minister Mamata BanerjeeLuck is banking as chief minister, with both the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Trinamool Congress hoping to win.

While the BJP claimed to have given a “very good fight” in Bhabnipur – Banerjee’s general constituency which they had replaced with Nandigram at the time of the assembly elections – the TMC said ‘Didi’ would win by a margin of “50,000 votes”. .

“We are confident that she will win by over 50,000 votes”, said Firhad Hakim, a cabinet minister and senior TMC leader who has campaigned for Banerjee almost every day in the past one month.

At the same time, BJP’s National Vice President and former Bengal President of the party, Dilip Ghosh said, ‘BJP will give a very good fight in Bhabnipur. If there is any violence after the result then the government will have to investigate it, otherwise there is CBI.

The Election Commission will start counting of votes from 8 am on Sunday. Results are usually clear by noon based on trends.

There will be 21 rounds of counting of votes in Bhawanipur assembly constituency.

The Election Commission has put in place a three-tier security arrangement, in which 24 companies of central forces have been called in and they have already been deployed at the counting centre.

While the outer layer of security will be looked after by the state police alone, the next layer will also have central forces. The inner layer will have only the central police. The entire area will be under CCTV surveillance.

Officers will be allowed only pen and paper and only the Returning Officer and Supervisor will be allowed to use the phone.

All officials and those entering the counting center must present a COVID-19 negative certificate.
