Mamata Banerjee questions NHRC report ‘leak’, asks why PM Modi hasn’t sent any commission to UP?

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday made critical remarks on the findings of the NHRC report and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech in Varanasi.

Talking about the NHRC report on the alleged post-poll violence, Mamata Banerjee alleged that while submitting the (NHRC) report to the Calcutta High Court, “they have leaked it”. “They should respect the court. If this is not political vendetta, how can they leak the report? They are defaming the people of Bengal,” he said.

Giving the example of Uttar Pradesh, he said: “PM Modi is well aware that there is no rule of law in UP. How many commissions has he sent there? How many incidents have happened from Hathras to Unnao. There are even journalists. . Not spared. They defame Bengal. Maximum violence was pre-poll”.

These comments come after some details about the NHRC’s comments on the post-poll violence in West Bengal. The NHRC report has been prepared on the basis of around 1,000 cases out of 3,000 cases identified by the committee.

Reportedly, the report mentions members being assaulted, assaulted and even harassed, where the local police allegedly played the role of mute spectators.

The report noted violence and fear over women and children as well as bureaucratic silence for family members who voted for a certain political allegiance.

CM Mamta has alleged that it has been deliberately leaked in an attempt to “defame Bengal”, claiming that “maximum violence was pre-poll”.

Apart from this, he also raised the issue of COVID vaccination.

Mamata Banerjee alleged, “We need 14 crore vaccine doses, but we are not getting enough vaccines. We have got only 2.12 crore vaccines. We have procured 18 lakh vaccines ourselves. Some states are getting more vaccines.” Some are not getting it at all.”

Bringing up PM Modi’s address in Varanasi, he said: “Today in UP, PM Modi said that most of the vaccines are being given to that state. If you don’t give money and vaccine to Bengal, it is injustice. That’s it. is defaming. By misusing the central agencies in Bengal and running political vendetta. He is unable to accept his loss.”

Meanwhile, he has suggested that he is ready to meet the Prime Minister during his visit to Delhi, despite the constant tussle between the state and central government.

Talking about the same, she said: “Now that the COVID situation has improved, I will go to Delhi during the Parliament session and meet some leaders there. If I get time, I will visit the President and I will meet the Prime Minister.”
