Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday. The Congress leader is currently asymptomatic and is under home isolation. Commenting on Kharge’s health condition, his office said in a statement, “He is asymptomatic and is in home isolation. He has been fully vaccinated, but was not yet eligible for his precautionary dose.”

“Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge has tested positive for COVID-19 in routine RT-PCR test on 12 January 2022,” Kharge’s secretary Ravindra Garimela wrote in the statement.

“The Kharge is asymptomatic and is in home isolation as per the guidelines. He has been fully vaccinated, but was not yet eligible for his precautionary or booster dose, which requires a gap of 9 months from the date of the second dose of vaccination. was,” it read.

“Five staff members at his Delhi office had tested positive a few days back, including the secretary of the Leader of the Opposition, RS. They are all doing fine and are recovering well under home isolation,” Read this further.

“Kharge would like to use this opportunity to encourage all eligible people to get vaccinated and especially to encourage senior citizens to take the precautionary dose at the earliest,” the statement said. Would also like to see how to expand the eligible population to receive a booster dose and to reduce the time difference between the second dose and the precautionary dose.”

“Anyone who may have been in contact with Kharge in the last two days is requested to observe his symptoms and get himself tested as per ICMR guidelines,” it read.

Also taking to Twitter, the Congress leader said, “I have tested positive for COVID-19 when I took routine RT-PCR. I am asymptomatic and under home isolation as advised.”

Earlier, former Karnataka Chief Minister and senior Congress leader M Veerappa Moily tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday evening and is under home isolation.

BJP National President JP Nadda, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister of State for Defense Ajay Bhatt also tested positive for COVID-19 recently.
