Malda blast: Two killed, one injured while making country-made bombs in West Bengal

Malda: At least two people were killed and another seriously injured in a country-made bomb blast in West Bengal’s Malda district in the early hours of Sunday. The deceased have been identified as Farzan SK (45) and Safikul Islam (30), who were making bombs in a field at Jesarthala Balutola under Manikchak police station area when the accidental explosion took place, they said. “The local people heard a huge explosion around 2.30 am. By the time our personnel reached the area, it was found that three injured people had been taken to the hospital. The doctors at the hospital declared two of them, while the other The person is undergoing treatment at Malda Medical College and Hospital,” said a police officer.

He said that some raw materials which were being used to make indigenous bombs were found from the spot.

Police said that they are probing from where such a huge quantity of explosives was brought.

He said that the motive behind making the bomb is also being ascertained.

Superintendent of Police Pradeep Kumar Yadav said that the bomb disposal squad is in the area and the situation is under control.

Search is on for others involved, he said, adding that four weapons were recovered from the area on Friday.

Locals said that due to factionalism within the ruling Trinamool Congress over land, tension has been brewing in the area for the past few weeks.
