Malaysia: Malaysia’s former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin has been arrested on corruption charges and is likely to appear in court, the anti-corruption agency said.

Muhyiddin Yassin served as the Prime Minister of Malaysia from March 2020 to August 2021. He will be the second PM of the country to face corruption charges after leaving office.

Former prime minister Najib Razak faced multiple corruption charges after losing the 2018 general elections and was sentenced to 12 years in prison in August after losing his final appeal in a number of trials.

Muhyiddin Yassin is facing corruption charges including money laundering in government projects awarded under his 17-month rule.

Yasin was detained following questioning by law enforcement agencies in connection with an economic incentive program for ethnic Malay contractors during the COVID-19 pandemic.
