Malayalam action-drama Malikappuram has made its way to Disney+ Hotstar. Directed by Vishnu Shashi Shankar and starring Unni Mukundan, Deva Nanda and Sripath in lead roles, the adventure-drama was released across the cinema halls on 30 December. The film received positive reviews from the audience.
Apart from Malayalam, the film will be streaming in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada languages.
The story of the film revolves around a girl who visits the Sabarimala temple. The main story of the film is about how women in their reproductive age (between the ages of 10 and 50) are not allowed to enter the temple. But the film’s protagonist, a young girl, is deeply attached to Lord Ayyappa.
The events of her life and how she and her cousin attempt to overcome many perils to reach the temple, are helped along their journey by an unexpected stranger (Unni Mukundan) who accompanies them to ensure their safe arrival at the temple. The plans of other evil entities along the way, is the story of the film.
Apart from Kerala, there are many Ayyappa devotees in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Hence, the film opened to good response in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada language versions as well.
South superstar Unni Mukundan enthralled the audience with his performance, while child actors Deva Nanda and Sripath played pivotal roles in the film and also gave their best performances. The makers of the film had earlier claimed that the film entered the Rs 100 crore club within 40 days of its release.
The other cast of the film includes Saiju Kurup, Ramesh Pisharody, Alfie Panjikaran, Manohari Joy, TG Ravi, Sampath Ram, Ramesh Pisharody and Kalabhavan Jinto.
Malikappuram is written by Abhilash Pillai, known for thriller blockbuster films including Patham Valavu, Night Drive and Cadaver. The music of the film is composed by Ranjin Raj and the cinematography credit goes to Vishnu Narayanan.
