Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai took to her social media handle to give a shout out to Miss Marvel, Marvel’s upcoming series starring Iman Velani, for depicting the life of a Pakistani immigrant family. The mini-series gives the MCU’s first Muslim superhero the title of its own show, and revolves around Kamala Khan, a Pakistani-American teenager in New Jersey. In her note, Malala, a Pakistani activist, wrote, “It’s not like I turn on the TV every day and find a character who eats the same food, listens to the same music or uses the same Urdu steps as me “
The note continued, “What a delight to see Ms. Marvel reflecting on the life of a Pakistani immigrant family and revealing a young superhero whose powers are tied to her legacy. Thank you, Marvel and Disney+, and most of all. Important, Ms. Marvel.”

Ms. Marvel has a predominantly Asian cast.
