Despite pleasant promises from Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the party is facing exodus ahead of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections due in February. Imran Masood will reach Lucknow with his son-in-law on Wednesday. Saini and Akhtar are also expected to reach Lucknow. Imran Masood had earlier sought time from SP chief Akhilesh Yadav to consider changing the party.
Earlier, he had said that the UP elections are “mainly between the SP and the BJP” and was expected to quit the Congress in September last year, as he openly praised the SP as “the main contender for the 2022 UP polls”. Had it.

In 2014, he contested from Saharanpur on Congress ticket and came second with 4.10 lakh votes. He contested the 2017 assembly election from Nakur assembly but lost to BJP candidate Dharam Singh Saini by around 1,300 votes.
Along with the assembly, Imran Masood has also tried his luck in the Lok Sabha elections but could not win.
Earlier, the prominent minority face from the western part of UP had heaped praise on the SP, fueling speculation that he would join the party a few days after meeting the SP chief at a wedding.
Earlier, several senior leaders including Jitin Prasada and Rae Bareli (Sadar) MLA Aditi Singh had joined the BJP. Harendra Malik, a close aide of Priyanka Gandhi, had resigned from the Congress along with his son and state vice-president and former MLA Pankaj Malik.
