He said that India was one of the first countries to establish bilateral diplomatic relations with Bangladesh on 6 December 1971.

During PM Modi’s visit to Bangladesh in March to attend the country’s national day, it was decided to celebrate the day as Maitri Diwas (Friendship Day).
India recognized Bangladesh on 6 December 1971, ten days before the independence of Bangladesh.
