Mahindra & Mahindra launched the highly-anticipated Scorpio-N in the Indian market recently, with the SUV recording over 1 lakh bookings in just half an hour. While the demand for the new Scorpio-N is truly extraordinary, Mahindra has decided to continue selling the previous-gen Scorpio alongside the new model as a relatively affordable alternative.
The previous-gen Scorpio will be revamped as the Scorpio Classic, and is expected to feature some cosmetic updates – one of which will be the addition of Mahindra’s latest ‘twin-peaks’ SUV logo, which debuted on the XUV700, and is also seen on the Scorpio-N. This means that the Scorpio Classic will be the third offering in Mahindra’s line-up to use the new logo.
The move has possibly been done in order to attract a wider group of buyers. Mahindra previously did something similar with the Bolero by rebranding the TUV300 as the Bolero Neo, and continue to sell it alongside the regular Bolero. The introduction of the Scorpio Classic could further help the brand appeal to buyers that prefer the old Scorpio’s rugged and utilitarian look.
The Scorpio Classic is expected to equipped with a larger touchscreen infotainment system as compared to the previous-gen Scorpio, along with new upholstery and dashboard inserts. The SUV will likely be equipped with a redesigned front bumper and a larger front grill with new vertical slats as well as the new Mahindra SUV logo. As per spy shots, the Scorpio Classic will also be equipped with dual-tone alloy wheels.
Powering the new Scorpio Classic will likely be the same 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine as before. This engine puts out 140 PS of max power and 319 Nm of peak torque, and will likely be available with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard. The Scorpio Classic will undercut the Scorpio-N as far as pricing is concerned, which means it could be priced from around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
