On Monday, PM Modi congratulated Isha Foundation founder Sadhguru and lauded “his tireless efforts for the spiritual progress of the people”. Modi’s letter comes in the backdrop of Isha’s annual night-long Mahashivratri festival, which is attended by over 100 million people from 170 countries. Adiyogi guides us to imbibe the spirit of unity of mind, body and intellect,” PM Modi said. “Glad to learn about the convening of the auspicious Mahashivratri celebrations,” wrote PM Modi, adding that it was “an opportunity to remember Adiyogi’s omnipresence.”
Mahashivratri is being celebrated today on 1st March. It is an annual Hindu festival celebrated in honor of Lord Shiva, one of the principal deities of Hinduism. According to Hindu mythology, the Lord performs the heavenly dance of creation, protection and destruction, also known as Shiva Tandava, on this day. Mahashivratri is celebrated on the Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi of Falgun month according to the Hindu calendar.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended his greetings on the auspicious occasion and tweeted in Hindi: “Heartfelt greetings to all the countrymen on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari also took to social media platforms to extend his greetings.
