Maharashtra: Youth kills cousin over property dispute, police arrested from Jharkhand

Maharashtra’s Thane Police has arrested a 25-year-old youth from Jharkhand, who allegedly killed his cousin over a property dispute. An official gave this information. The accused has been identified as Kallukumar Sitaram Mahato, the official said. Police arrested him from his native Garhwa in Jharkhand on Wednesday for the murder of his cousin Puran Sikander Mahto (47).

Dombivali Assistant Commissioner of Police JD More told the media on Friday that Puran Mahto was found in critical condition on a road in Goliwali near Dombivali on November 4. He had many deep wounds on his body. He said, ‘On receiving the information, personnel from Manpada police station immediately took him to the hospital, where he died during treatment. He has been identified as Puran Mahato. A case has been registered against unknown person under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and investigation has been started.

He said that the investigation revealed that there was a property dispute between Puran and the brothers of his relatives. These brothers lived in Goliwali village. More said, “Investigation revealed that Puran had gone to dinner at his brothers’ house at night on the invitation of his brothers a day earlier. The brothers later hit Puran on the head with a heavy stone and left him in an injured state and left for the village. After that their search was started. We came to know that the accused are hiding in their village in Jharkhand. After this a team was sent to Jharkhand to nab the accused.

More said, “Investigation revealed that Puran had gone to dinner at his brothers’ house at night on the invitation of his brothers a day earlier. The brothers later hit Puran on the head with a heavy stone and left him in an injured state and left for the village. After that their search was started. We came to know that the accused are hiding in their village in Jharkhand. After this a team was sent to Jharkhand to nab the accused.

Kallukumar Mahato was caught by the police team, but he faced strong opposition from the local people, he said. The villagers pelted stones at the police party. This police team included policemen from both Manpara and Jharkhand. A case has been registered in this regard at the local police station. He said that the police is looking for another accused Lallukumar Mahato. The arrested accused was produced before a court here on Friday, which remanded him to police custody till November 22.
