Nagpur: Unseasonal rains and hailstorm have caused huge damage to crops grown on more than 28,000 hectares of land. Maharashtraof Nagpur division in the last few days, officials said on Thursday.
Apart from this, about 70 houses of the division have been damaged. Wardha district and 27 in Nagpur district. He said that one person also died due to lightning in Nagpur.
Rain and hailstorm were observed in various districts of East Vidarbha region between January 8 and 11.
As per initial reports, the bad weather affected 28,000 hectares of agricultural land in 1,272 villages of Nagpur, Wardha, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur and others. Gadchiroli An official told PTI-Bhasha.
The official said Gadchiroli is the worst affected with 8,550 hectares of land in 714 villages, followed by Nagpur with 7,495 hectares of land.
An agriculture department official said that in Wardha since January 8, rains in Arvi, Karanja, Ashti and other areas of the district have affected crops on more than 3,000 hectares of land.
The standing crops like cotton, tur and orange plantations have been damaged, the official said.
On Tuesday, rain and hailstorm occurred in Kampti, Sauner, Ramtek and Parseni areas of Nagpur district, officials said.
The local administration has started the survey of the affected agricultural land.
Nagpur Guardian Minister Nitin Raut Instructions have been given to conduct a ‘panchnama’ of the damage in the district. A district official said that Collector R Vimala has ordered the revenue department to take action on this and submit a report.
Maharashtra Animal Husbandry Minister Sunil Kedar is in Nagpur to inspect the affected villages of the district.
