Maharashtra: Two held with heroin worth Rs 5.17 crore in Palghar | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: The Maharashtra anti-terrorism squad (ATS) arrested two persons from Vasai and seized 1.7kg heroin worth Rs 5.17 crore from them.
The Juhu and Thane units of ATS received information about the drug traffickers and carried out operations at Pelhare village in Palghar district’s Vasai on February 4 evening, which continued till February 5. Besides 1.7kg heroin, police also recovered cash worth Rs 2.6 lakh, two mobile phones and other incriminating material used for selling drugs. A case under the NDPS Act was registered.
The ATS arrested two persons — Alim Akhtar (46) and Chhota Nasir (40), both residents of a village in Haridwar district of Uttarakhand, The accused were produced before a court and remanded into ATS custody till February 15.
Police said that during the primary investigation, they found that a person from a neighboring state was the supplier of the seized contraband. The supplier has been named in the case as a wanted accused. His modus operandi was to supply the drug in a secret chamber created in a new shoe pair. The arrested accused were operating from a rented apartment in Pelhare village in Vasai. The accused would supply the drug to traffickers in Mumbai, said the police.
