Mumbai: Maharashtra The state health department said on Thursday there were 997 new coronavirus cases and 28 deaths, taking the number of infections to 66,21,420 and the death toll to 1,40,475.

A total of 1,016 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cured cases in Maharashtra to 64,64,948, taking the active cases to 12,352 in the state, the department said.

Mumbai district reported the highest number of 276 new infections in the state, followed by Pune district with 85 cases.
Among Maharashtra’s eight zones (each comprising a cluster of districts), Mumbai reported the highest number of 475 cases during the day, followed by Pune region with 259 cases.
A health department official said 150 cases were reported in Nashik region, 27 in Kolhapur, 32 in Aurangabad, 37 in Latur, 10 in Nagpur and seven in Akola region.
Mumbai reported 12 deaths, the most among the state’s eight regions, followed by Pune (8), Latur (4), Nashik (3) and Kolhapur (1). He said Nagpur, Akola and Aurangabad regions did not report any fresh death due to COVID-19.
Of the total 12,352 active cases in Maharashtra, Mumbai district has the highest number of 3,627 cases.
The department said that at 11,34,097, Pune district has reported the highest ever recoveries in Maharashtra.
