Maharashtra: In a major breakthrough, the Thane police on Sunday (June 11) arrested Shahnawaz Khan alias Baddo, the main accused wanted by the UP police for allegedly promoting religious conversion of youths through an online gaming application. was operating a racket involved in According to the police, Baddo was arrested from Alibaug town of Raigarh district of Maharashtra.

An official said that the Ghaziabad police is looking for Shahnawaz Khan, a resident of Mumbra city in Thane district of Maharashtra.

Khan is being taken for questioning

He is being taken to Mumbra for questioning in his alleged involvement in running a racket of converting youths through an online gaming application.

Based on a complaint, a case was registered against Khan and the cleric of a mosque in Ghaziabad under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Illegal Conversion Act.

Complaint was lodged last month

Police said a Ghaziabad man lodged a complaint with the police last month alleging that his son, who had recently passed his Class 12 board exams, was illegally converted by the cleric and Baddo.

Police said the complainant alleged that his son came in contact with Baddo through an online gaming app and used to talk to him often, after which he got inclined towards Islam.

According to the police, the boy told his father that he had converted to Islam after Baddo convinced him.
