Police found bodies of five women and four men at Mhaisal in Sangli district and said the cause of death was yet to be ascertained.

Nine members of the same family were found dead at their house in Maharashtra’s Sangli on Monday. Police said the death was suspected to have been a suicide.

Police found bodies of five women and four men at Mhaisal in Sangli district, 350 km from state capital Mumbai. “We have found nine bodies in a house. Sangli Superintendent of Police Dixit Gedam said three bodies were found at one place, while six were found at different places in the house.

Asked if it was a “suicide settlement”, Gaidam said police are on the spot and confirming the cause of death. But, no note was found, the police officer said.

According to the police, it is a family of doctors. An official said the exact cause of death would be known after the post-mortem and that he had prima facie consumed the poisonous substance.
