Maharashtra government takes a tough stand on illegal abortion case, directs police to take action

Wardha illegal abortion case: The state government has swung into action regarding the illegal abortion case in Arvi city of Wardha, Maharashtra.

On Monday, the Home Ministry of Maharashtra has directed the local police to remain alert.

The Home Ministry further directed the local police to keep a watch on such cases and monitor the hospitals. This will enable timely action and the accused will be punished.

According to the state home ministry, so far three people, one doctor and two nurses have been arrested in this case.

Presently the inquiry committee is probing the matter. A total of 6 people have been taken into custody in the case so far.

A case of abortion of a 13-year-old girl came to light in a hospital in Arvi. During the investigation, the illegal abortion racket running in the hospital came to light.

On further investigation, the police had recovered 11 skulls and 54 bones from the rear of the hospital.

The police have widened the scope of investigation and handed over the seized skull and bones along with all the evidence obtained during the investigation to the biomedical government doctors.

Police has constituted a committee of DSP, Police Inspector and women police officers to investigate the matter.

13 year old girl abortion

Arvi police started investigation after the police had received information about illegal abortion of a 13-year-old girl.

Evidence of illegal abortion was claimed on January 10.

After this, the police arrested a doctor and a female nurse working in the hospital. It was only after interrogating both of them that the police came to know about the magnitude of the case.

The police yesterday launched an investigation at the hospital and started looking for evidence related to the illegal abortion of a 13-year-old girl.

The rear part of the hospital was dug up to set up a biogas plant. During the excavation of the old pit, the police have found 11 skulls and 54 bones from the spot.
