The Maharashtra government has called for a bandh in the state on October 11 (Monday) to protest the Lakhimpur Kheri violence that killed eight people, including farmers, last week.

NCP spokesperson and state minister Nawab Malik said on Sunday, “The statewide bandh will begin at 12 midnight.” He said that the workers of Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress are meeting the citizens with an appeal to participate whole heartedly in the bandh and express solidarity with the farmers.

“The BJP-led central government has allowed looting of agricultural produce through three new agricultural laws and now its minister’s kin are killing farmers. We have to show solidarity with the farmers,” he said.

MVA government demands sacking of BJP minister

The NCP leader said the MVA has demanded that Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Misha be sacked.

“The minister’s son was arrested only after the intervention of the Supreme Court,” he said.

Many business organizations supported the bandh

Several business organizations in Pune have expressed their support for Monday’s Maharashtra bandh called by ruling MVA constituents and other organizations to protest the killing of farmers at Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh on October 3.

Federation of Trade Associations of Pune (FTAP) President Fatechchand Ranka said that all shops except essential commodities will remain closed till 3 pm on Monday.

Rohan Ursal, Secretary, Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard, said that more than 2,000 traders dealing in fruits, vegetables, flowers, grains, onions and potatoes etc. will support the bandh to show solidarity with the farmers who play a vital role in their area. . (merchant) union.

Transport services will have to suffer

Transport in Maharashtra’s second largest city is also likely to be affected as rickshaw unions have decided not to ply their vehicles during the lockdown period on Monday.

Nitin Pawar, office-bearer of Rickshaw Panchayat, said, “Our organization and many other transport groups will support the bandh.”

However, relief for the public is expected from the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited, which has decided to run additional buses on Monday.

Its transport manager DM Zende said, “Since PMPML services fall in the essential category, we will work on Monday, and have decided to run additional buses on all routes if needed.”
