Maharashtra Board schools for classes 1 to 9, 11 will function till April 30

The Maharashtra Education Department has said that the state board’s schools for classes 1 to 9 and 11 will work ‘full day’ till April 30 to compensate for the academic loss caused to students due to COVID-19, a decision which will extend the summer vacation. Will affect the schedule of students. Usually, the annual examinations for classes 1 to 9 are over by April 15 and the holiday starts after that.

The GR issued by IM Qazi, Joint Secretary, Government of Maharashtra, has directed schools to volunteer for full days on Saturdays and on Sundays instead of half days. It also said that the exams for classes 1 to 9 and 11 should be conducted in the third week of April and results should be declared by May.

Pune District Principals Association president Harishchandra Gaikwad said that the government should have issued this GR by the end of February. Stating that schools have completed preparations for conducting exams and released a timetable, he said many parents have planned their summer vacations accordingly.

“In this GR, the education department has asked the schools to declare the results by May but no date has been given. If there was a time limit, it would be easier for schools to plan. Students will have to come to schools by the end of April.”

Terming the GR as ‘vague’, Gaikwad said that instead of issuing the GR, the state education department should give advance dates for opening of schools for the new academic session on June 7 or 8 instead of June 15.
