Maharashtra BJP workers protest against reopening of temples; ‘Coronavirus will happen only when temples are reopened’? State asks BJP President

Activists and leaders of the opposition BJP held protests in several cities of Maharashtra on Monday against the MVA government’s stand of not reopening temples. coronavirus Sanctions. In many places, the rules of social distancing were not followed during the demonstration. Protests organized by the BJP’s Spiritual Aghadi (spiritual wing) were held in Pune, Mumbai, Nashik, Nagpur, Pandharpur, Aurangabad and other places where agitators rang bells and blew conch shells.

In Pune and Aurangabad, BJP workers tried to forcibly enter closed temples, but were stopped by the police.

Maharashtra BJP president Chandrakant Patil, who led the protest in Pune city, questioned the state government’s reasoning behind allowing liquor and other shops to function, but not giving equal relaxation to temples and other places of worship.

“Does the fear of the third wave of the pandemic not apply to liquor shops and other shops? Does coronavirus talk to them (government) and say it will strike only when temples reopen?” Patil asked.

He alleged that the ruling Shiv Sena “is not allowing the reopening of temples to please its allies- Congress and NCP. In Mumbai, former minister and senior BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar led a protest at the famous Babulnath temple. However, the police stopped the protesters from going near the temple.

Mungantiwar told reporters that temples are open in rest of the country but in Maharashtra. Asked about the central guidelines that states have been asked to ensure that public gatherings are avoided in view of the upcoming festivals, Mungantiwar retorted, asking, “Has the Center allowed liquor shops to function and temples to function? Was told to allow closure? Did the state government take action against Shiv Sainiks who opposed Union Minister Narayan Rane? Local trains are open to fully vaccinated people. Why can’t the same criteria be applied and the temples reopened?”

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers on Tuesday staged a protest in neighboring Thane against the state government’s decision not to allow Dahi Handi celebrations.

Maharashtra Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant, however, hit out at the BJP, saying the saffron party is “playing with the lives of the devotees and does not care about the instructions of the central government”.

“People should be alert and stay away from BJP leaders and workers as they can be carriers of coronavirus. Chandrakant Patil and others were not wearing face masks,” he claimed.
