Maharashtra: 44-year-old duped 26 widows of Rs 2.5 crore, arrested Mumbai News – Times of India

Thane: The city police have arrested a 44-year-old man from Pondicherry for duping a widow of the city by contacting a fake account on a matrimonial site and duping her Rs 16.8 lakh on the pretext of marriage. The police found that he duped a total of 26 widows across the country and collectively extorted Rs 2.5 crore from them.
Police said Prajit Tayal Khalid of Odingam Mahi in Pondicherry and Prajit Jogish KJ with the surnames Prajit TK duped women in Mumbai, Kerala, Bangalore and Kolkata.
According to the police, a widow residing in Dhokli area registered a case against the accused, stating that she had contacted him through a matrimonial site between October 2020 and December 11, 2021. He promised to marry her and also had physical relations with her.
“He also told her that he had a hotel in Paris that he sold, but the income was Held With RBI. He claimed that he was in dire need of money and if he helped her, he would double his money,” said Vinay Rathod, DCP Zone-5. Police said he did the same thing to other victims.
