Earlier in March, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur took a tough stand on complaints against content on OTT platforms, saying obscenity and abusive language in the name of creativity is not acceptable.

The Madhya Pradesh government will take steps to ban “objectionable web series”, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Saturday. The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister made the remarks while speaking at a function of religious preacher Devkinandan Thakur in the state capital Bhopal.

Stating that Madhya Pradesh is a land of religious and spiritual importance, Chouhan said the “state government will take necessary steps” towards banning “objectionable web series”.

Earlier, while addressing the gathering, Devkinandan Thakur talked about the need to ban objectionable web series as the young generation is being taken away from the culture due to such content.

Thakur has been vocal against shows/series on OTT platforms, arguing that they adversely affect social interactions.

Earlier in March, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur took a tough stand on complaints against content on OTT platforms, saying obscenity and abusive language in the name of creativity is not acceptable.

Thakur said the government has taken a serious view of complaints of obscenity and abusive language in content on OTT platforms and will not hesitate to take strong action to curb this trend.

Thakur said, “These forums have been given freedom for creativity and not for obscenity and when someone crosses the line, then hurling abuses in the name of creativity cannot be accepted at all.”
