Maanvi Gagroo on her Kaali Peeli stories: I once forgot my entire bag in a taxi

Kaali Peeli Tales is an upcoming anthology film starring Soni Razdan, Gauahar Khan, Sayani Gupta, Maanvi Gagroo along with Vinay Pathak, Sharib Hashmi, Hussain Dalal, Priyanshu Painyuli, Saadia Siddiqui and Tanmay Dhananya. The six-film anthology series is all set to release on August 20 and the actors have now opened up on their personal Kaali Peeli Tales.

The interesting part of these stories is the short story each ending in Mumbai Kaali Peeli Taxi, which serves as a metaphor for each story.

Questioning him on his personal anecdote of traveling in Kaali Peeli taxi, Soni Razdan shared, “Once I was going to Kaali Peeli very late at night and I was very young and it was around 11 or 11:30 in the night. was going for dinner. When I got into the cab there was this big red button in the cab and I was worried whether I should take the cab or not because I think the red button could be a danger signal. Nothing happened during the whole journey but then suddenly this car was speeding on the side of the road and the driver was probably drunk and they were whistling and making lewd comments.

She further says, ‘The taxi driver became so angry and protective that he started shouting at them and asking if there are no mother and sister in your house? He told them and I thanked him afterwards and he started saying what kind of times we live in and all. After that it didn’t matter red or blue, he was such a good driver and he really took care of me.”

Maanvi Gagroo told about her Kaali Peeli experience “I used to live in Colaba so I have taken a lot of Kaali Peeli. I love chatting with the drivers as some of them have the best stories and especially kali yellow because they too have been here long time ago to work. So they have seen Bombay change from what it was and there were many of them who became actors, singers, lyricists. I think there’s a lot of potential for stories out there that still have to be tapped.”

She adds, “Once I used to forget my bag, usually people forget a wallet, a phone but I forget my entire bag and it was late at night and I came back from rehearsals from Andheri. And I had my handbag containing my wallet and I left. Then when I remembered I panicked because it wasn’t an Uber or anything that I could approach and all. I had lost all hope then my watchman came and he said, you forgot your luggage and this taxi driver had come to return it. The driver didn’t know my flat number so he left it with the watchman and I went and went looking for him but he was gone and then I thought it only happens in Mumbai.”

Young director Adeeb Raees leads the project and the series captures the essence of love, relationships and life in Mumbai and covers complex topics from infidelity, open marriage, homosexuality, commitment fear, divorce to many others.

The star-packed anthology film produced by Madamidas Films is all set to debut on Amazon Mini TV and will be available via Amazon Shopping app from August 20.
