Lyricist Vairamuthu Appe demands Dadasaheb Phalke honor for these 3 legends

Popular lyricist Vairamuthu has appealed to the central government to confer the Dadasaheb Phalke Award on actor Kamal Haasan, director Bharathiraja and music composer Ilaiyaraaja. This comes just two days after superstar Rajinikanth received the highest award in Indian cinema. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu had honored him with the prestigious award on 25 October in New Delhi.

Rajinikanth was given this award for his contribution to cinema for more than 40 years. With this, he became the third person in Tamil cinema to be honored with this prestigious award. Earlier, actor Sivaji Ganesan and director Balachander had received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

Vairamuthu on Wednesday congratulated actor Rajinikanth on Twitter on winning the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. In the same tweet, he appealed to the Center to give equal respect to Kamal Haasan, Bharathiraja and Ilayaraja.

“Friend Rajinikanth has made the art world proud by receiving the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Congratulations Orkudi. The central government should note that there are more prominent actors in Tamil Nadu who deserve the Dadasaheb Phalke Award as Kamal Haasan – Bharathiraja – Ilaiyaraaja,” Vairamuthu said in his tweet.

Twitter users in the comment section also started demanding Dadasaheb Phalke Award for Kamal Haasan, Bharathiraja and Ilayaraja along with the lyricist. Fans said that they deserve to be honored with the coveted award as they have been serving cinema for more than 50 years.

On October 25, Rajinikanth received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award during the 67th National Film Awards ceremony. He was appreciated with a standing ovation while receiving the award. He dedicated the prestigious award to his brother Satyanarayan, old friend Raj Bahadur and director K Balachander.

Taking to Twitter, Rajinikanth thanked everyone who congratulated him for winning the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

Currently, he is awaiting the release of his upcoming project ‘Annathe’, which is scheduled for Diwali.
