The Directorate of Government Examinations, Tamil Nadu (TNDGE) declared the Class 12 or HSC results on May 8. Around 7.5 lakh students passed the exam, and the overall pass percentage of the state stood at 94.03 per cent. Even though the state did not announce the toppers officially, S Nandini, a resident of Dindigul district, scored a perfect score of 600. He has scored full marks in Tamil, English, Economics, Commerce, Computer Applications and Accounts subjects. She completed her education in a government school, and her father is a daily wage laborer.

It is reported that lyricist Vairamuthu visited the girl’s home and gifted her a golden pen for scoring good marks in her 12th standard exams. He has congratulated Nandini by tweeting about this. She wrote, “How can we believe that a carpenter’s daughter topping the state exam is a sign of pride in womanhood? I am coming to Dindigul to present my sister Nandini with a gold pen I recently found. Make your dreams come true, girl!”

However, he has received backlash for calling Nandini his sister. A few years ago, her name cropped up in a #MeToo complaint, which created a lot of anger against her in the industry. He started getting less work and many people in the industry refused to work with him. Even Mani Ratnam, who is believed to be a close friend of Vairamuthu, did not offer him to work in Ponniyin Selvan, according to reports.

People have trolled him on social media. One user commented, ‘How can you call a girl of your granddaughter’s age as younger sister? It would have been better if she had posted as a granddaughter.” Another user wrote, “A 17-year-old girl is the sister of a 71-year-old man? pen. Leave that little girl alone. If you want to give a gift, send it by post.”
