Ludhiana: The accused, arrested with a 32-bore country-made pistol, made a weapon on his own by the Focal Point Police on Tuesday.
The accused used to work in an iron factory two years ago, where he made weapon parts and later assembled them to make pistols, an illegal country-made weapon. According to police officials, the accused had also watched some YouTube videos on how to make and assemble weapons.
Sukhwinder Singh (48), a resident of New Ramesh Nagar located at Tibba Road, has made a .32 bore pistol in addition to a .12 bore pistol.
Investigating Officer Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Dharampal Choudhary, in-charge of Police Chowki Industrial Area, said Sukhwinder Singh used to work in a factory where he used to work on a lathe machine. “The lathe machine is a machine that can make a variety of tools and machine parts. He made the weapon parts on that machine and brought it home. After that, he watched some YouTube videos and collected the weapons. The police found both the weapons. .12 bore and .32 bore have been recovered PistolASI said.
Sukhwinder’s friends Rajit, Rohit and their accomplices robbed Rs 43,000 from a labor contractor on 17 July using a .12 bore pistol. When the police arrested the accused, they revealed that they had received the weapon from Sukhwinder. After this, the police arrested Sukhwinder on Tuesday.
Further ASI Chaudhary said, “The accused confessed that he made these weapons only for show. He has had the weapon for more than two years, however, he has never misused it. His friend took the weapon and committed the crime from him. The police have also recovered a live cartridge of 12 bore from the accused and inquiries are on as to where did he get the cartridge from.
Describing his criminal background, the ASI said that in 1994, Sukhwinder had killed his colleague in Haryana’s Panipat following an altercation. Sukhwinder has completed his sentence in the murder case.
Asked whether the accused has sold any such weapon, the officer said, “The investigation so far shows that he has made only two weapons for himself.” However, further investigation is on to find out.”
