New Delhi: M.S.K Prasad, former chief selector of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has joined Indian Premier League’s (IPL) newest franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as a strategic consultant. The Lucknow based franchise announced on Thursday, August 17.
Prasad’s overall career
MSK Prasad, who played 6 Tests and 17 ODIs for India, will now be seen handling important responsibilities in the IPL. Prasad is associated with the world’s richest cricket league IPL for the first time. The team for the 2019 World Cup was selected under the chairmanship of Prasad.
The former Indian cricketer will guide the Lucknow team on different aspects. KL Rahul is the captain of the LSG, but due to injury in the last season, the captaincy was handed over to Krunal Pandya.
Prasad’s career as chief selector
MSK Prasad, 48, has been the chairman of the senior selection committee of the Board of Cricket in India (BCCI) from September 2016 to March 2020. This former wicket-keeper batsman also served as the Director of Cricket Operations of the Andhra Cricket Association. This former cricketer represented India in 6 Tests and 17 One Day Internationals in his career, scoring 106 and 131 runs respectively.
LSG’s statement
Lucknow Super Giants said in a statement, ‘MSK Prasad brings with him a lot of experience and an excellent track record in cricket operations. There is also a passion which has propelled him to remarkable achievements in both the national and international arena.
LSG said MSK Prasad will assist the franchise as head of talent discovery and talent development. The Lucknow Super Giants’ latest appointment comes after the freshman team signed Justin Langer as head coach to replace Andy Flower, who has joined Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the 2024 IPL.
