Lt Gen Manoj Pandey takes charge as Chief of Army Staff

Lt Gen Manoj Pandey on Tuesday took over as the new Vice Chief of the Indian Army in place of Lt Gen CP Mohanty. Lt Gen Pandey was serving as Eastern Army Commander before assuming the new role.

Lt Gen RP Kalita has been appointed as the new chief of the Kolkata-headquartered Eastern Army Command that guards the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh sectors.

Lt Gen Pandey was commissioned into the Bombay Sappers in December 1982. In his distinguished career, he has carried out many prestigious command and staff assignments in conventional as well as counter insurgency operations in all types of terrain.

He commanded an engineer regiment along the Line of Control (LoC) during Operation Parakram in Jammu and Kashmir, an engineer brigade in the western sector, an infantry brigade along the LoC and a hill division in the highlands of western Ladakh and a took command of the Corps. Northeast.

The General Officer has served as Chief Engineer in United Nations Missions in Ethiopia and Eritrea. He was the Commander-in-Chief Andaman and Nicobar Command (CINCAN) from June 2020 to May 2021. For his distinguished service, he has been awarded Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal, Chief’s Award. Army Staff Commendation and twice with GOC-in-C Commendation.

When Army Chief General MM Naravane retires from service in April, Lt Gen Pandey will be the senior-most Army Commander. As per tradition, the most senior army commander becomes the Chief of Army Staff.

After taking over as the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Pandey paid tributes to the martyred soldiers at the National War Memorial. Lt Gen Mohanty retired from service on Monday.
