De Kock’s opening partner and LSG captain KL Rahul was not at his best but that didn’t stop the South African batsman from playing some brilliant shots. De Kock was in an aggressive mood against fellow Proteas Enrique Nortje, who was playing his first match of IPL 2022. His first two overs went for 33 runs.
Meanwhile, KL Rahul was caught by Kuldeep Yadav after a sluggish innings of 24 off 25 balls. Lalit Yadav picked up hard-hitting Evin Lewis but de Kock’s presence in the middle and the depth of the rest of LSG’s batting line-up meant DC suffered their second consecutive defeat of the season.

Lucknow Super Giants were in top gear against DC but some drama was waiting to unfold. Returning to DC, Enrique Nortje was costly and to make matters worse for the team, he was dropped from the attack in the 16th over after bowling his second ball above waist height. After some deliberation and discussion, Rishabh Pant went to Kuldeep Yadav, who was immediately dispatched for two boundaries by Quinton de Kock. But Kuldeep got the last laugh when he got de Kock caught by Sarfaraz Khan at short third man.
DC were encouraged by the dismissal of de Kock and LSG looked nervous. Mustafizur Rahman conceded just 4 runs in the 17th over, while Shardul Thakur conceded only 5 runs in the 18th over under pressure from Deepak Hooda and Krunal Pandya. The game was truly in balance and LSG needed 19 runs from the last 2 overs. But Krunal smashed Mustafizur for a big six in the 19th over to bring LSG closer to the DC target.

Prithvi Shaw had a normal start to his IPL 2022 campaign but he was on fire against Lucknow Super Giants on Thursday. One of the 4 retained Delhi Capitals players, Shaw repaid the faith shown by the franchise and smashed a 34-ball 61 in an entertaining innings. He was particularly brutal against former DC teammate Avesh Khan. Shaw’s carnage was eventually ended by Krishnappa Gautam who made his LSG debut after Manish Pandey was dropped.
