Lok Sabha Elections 2024 results: Priyanka Chopra congratulates KL Sharma as he eyes a win against Smriti Irani in Amethi
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra gave Kishori Lal Sharma a shout-out as the party candidate from Amethi is ahead in fight against Union Minister and sitting MP Smriti Irani.
Kishori, a long-time Congress worker and a close Gandhi family aide, has a lead of over 50,000 votes.
Taking to X, Priyanka shared a picture with Kishori and sent him along with the people of Amethi her best wishes. She wrote in Hindi, “Kishori bhaiya, I never had any doubts, I was sure from the beginning that you will win. Hearty congratulations to you and my dear brothers and sisters of Amethi!”

The Amethi seat has been a Congress stronghold for decades until Irani defeated Rahul Gandhi in 2019 elections.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was rumoured to be contesting from the seat this year. However, the Gandhi family decided last minute to nominate Kishori Lal Sharma as the Amethi candidate for Congress. Although he is from Ludhiana in Punjab, Sharma has been working in Amethi for years.
Speaking with Indian Express then, Sharma said, “I have served the region for 40 years and know Amethi very well. I came here in 1983 as a Youth Congress representative to work for Rajiv (Gandhi) ji and have remained here since then. Except 1981, I managed all of Rajiv ji’s remaining elections.” Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi contested from Rae Bareli.
At the time of reporting, the Election Commission of India website stated that Samajwadi Party and the Congress were leading in 36 and seven seats, respectively whereas BJP had 33 seats.
