LPG Price Hike: Commercial LPG price hiked by Rs.100. Check rates in your city

According to reports quoted by news agency ANI, the price of liquefied petroleum gas or LPG, used for commercial purposes, was raised again on November 1. According to a notification, on Wednesday, December 01, the price of a 19 kg commercial cylinder was increased by up to Rs 100. This is the second time the prices have been hiked so much, after the hike on November 1 this year, very much. However, the prices of domestic cylinders remained the same. LPG prices are revised every month for all states and union territories across India. The hike in LPG prices will have a greater impact on the commercial sector in India.

Chennai LPG cylinder will cost Rs 2,234.50 per unit, making it the highest among the four metro cities.

This is the fifth time in a span of just three months that commercial LPG prices have been hiked. The prices were last hiked on November 1 and before that on October 15. As per the notification, there was no increase in the prices of domestic cylinders by weight. 14.2kg, 5kg, 10kg mixed or 5kg mixed cylinder.

Party leaders said the move came a day after Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal threatened to intensify its agitation if the Center did not reduce the price of LPG cylinders by November 30. The regional party had staged a three-day dharna in front of all 314 blocks of the state over the issue, which ended on Wednesday.

At present, the cost of a 14.2 kg domestic cylinder in the national capital Delhi is Rs 899.50, while a 19 kg domestic cylinder will cost Rs 2,101. The government revises the prices of LPG cylinders every month for each state and union territory (UT).

Earlier, last month, on November 1, the price of a 19 kg cylinder was increased by Rs 266 per cylinder. After this the prices increased to Rs 2,000.50. Earlier, on October 1, the price of a 19 kg commercial cylinder was increased by Rs 43, but was further reduced by Rs 2.53 on October 6.

The government in its policy makes all households in the country eligible for 12 subsidized cylinders of 14.2 kg each. The policy is valid for each year, and is renewed thereafter. Cylinders in excess of this are chargeable for commercial purposes or under non-subsidised rates.

While LPG prices were increased on Wednesday, petrol prices remained the same for the 28th consecutive day. Petrol and diesel prices have been kept unchanged since last month following a continuous hike and the central government’s move to cut excise duty on auto fuels.
