Viewers and critics alike have lauded the series, and now, even Amul’s latest topical has paid tribute to the legendary duo and the show.
Angry Young Men, a docuseries on the life and work of the famous Bollywood duo Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, was released recently. It has taken viewers on a trip down memory lane, celebrating the rich legacy of Bollywood and the culture that this duo created. While viewers and critics have praised the series, the latest Amul’s topical also paid tribute to the legendary duo and the show. Farhan Akhtar shared a picture of the latest illustration with the caption “Love It” on his Instagram Stories.
It features caricatures of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar with the words, “Yeh Toast Tea Hum Nahin Chhodenge”, written in bold. It was a refreshing brand take on the song Yeh Dosti Hum Nahi Todenge from the film Sholay, which was written by Salim-Javed. The topical also played a pun on the series title and wrote, “Hungry Young Men,” at the bottom in a way to pay tribute to the latest release.
The docuseries includes bytes from many celebrities talking about their interactions and memories with the dynamic team. It offers insights from Salim-Javed themselves, revealing how their work in blockbusters like Sholay, Deewaar and Don enthralled a generation and left an indelible cultural mark in Bollywood. Angry Young Men provides audiences with an authentic and honest look into their lives and work. The series includes various famous anecdotes from stars such as Shabana Azmi, Zoya Akhtar, Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Shatrughan Sinha, Jaya Bachchan, Honey Irani, Karan Johar and others discussing how the team functioned.
The documentary series is helmed by Namrata Rao and premiered on Amazon Prime Video on August 20. Speaking about working on the much-anticipated docuseries, Namrata told Hindustan Times, “It was very important for me to touch upon the criticisms, the plagiarism, the fact that their scripts started to feel similar, that there was fatigue in their work as they kept getting successful because that really changed the game for them. So you hear what they say. Now that I know them as people, I believe what they say: ‘We did it. We knew we were doing it. We used to watch a lot of films. We used to read a lot. We took whatever stayed with us and put it into our scripts.” Salman Khan, Salma Khan, Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti co-produced Angry Young Men under the banners of Salman Khan Films, Excel Entertainment, and Tiger Baby.
