Loss in stock market prompts Bhuvneshwar man to kill wife, son Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

BHUBANESWAR: Unable to face the disappointment on job loss during covid-induced lockdown and huge losses in the stock market, a man allegedly strangled his wife and son to death Kalinga Vihar Area under Tamando police limits here on Tuesday.
The police arrested the accused Abanti Bijay Mangraj (40), who had also attempted to commit suicide by slitting his left wrist. Police said that though he was admitted to the hospital, his condition is safe. The bodies of Mangraj’s wife Swarnalata (35) and son Jeetu (10) were recovered from their house, which they had rented recently.
“Mangraj was in a deep financial crisis. We have heard that he used to work as a salesman in a private company before being laid off during the lockdown this year. This angle is being verified. He has made his investment in stock market. Tried luck. But heavy loss was incurred,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Uma Shankar Dash said.
Police said her desperation adversely affected her personal life. He often vented his anger on his wife and son, leading to frequent disputes between the couple. A quarrel broke out between the husband and wife on Monday night.
“Mangraj mixed sleeping pills in the food of his wife and son on Monday night. Early in the morning he strangled them to death in their sleep. He attempted suicide by slitting his wrist and failed. Later he returned home. He fled and was surrounded by police,” Das said. Police sources said Mangraj called up his brother-in-law and informed him about his crime.
