Nandamuri Balakrishna-starrer Telugu film, Lorry Driver, is celebrating 31 years of its release this month. Directed by B. Gopal, the film was released on 2 December 1990, leading to Balayya’s immense popularity in the South. Lorry Driver proved to be a blockbuster at the box office in the early 90s, setting huge records.

Vijayashanti was seen as the female lead opposite Balaiya in the film. While Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao was selected for editing, the cinematography was handed over to YSR Swamy.

The Telugu action-thriller is produced under Jaya Productions by S. Jaya was controlled by Rama Rao.

The music for the film was composed by Chakraborty. It was also director B Gopal’s first film with Balakrishna. The lyrics of the chartbuster songs were penned by Sitaramshastri and Jonnavithula. Veteran SP Balasubramaniam, Janaki and Chitra gave vocals.

After the success of this film, Balayya and B Gopal worked for various films like Rowdy Inspector, Samar Singha Reddy, Narasimhanayudu and Palnati Brahmanayudu.

Samar Singha Reddy and Narasimhanayudu were major hits, while Palnati Brahmanayadu failed at the box office.

Balakrishna’s recently released film Akhand has broken worldwide box-office records, reaching the 100 crore club in just 6 days.

Akhand was an ambitious action film, directed by Boyapati Srinu.
