Lords Ruth Celebrates for Red Day

Neck fight between India and England at Lord’s Cricket Ground, London. On the second day of the second Test between the two countries, the competing blues were replaced by noble reds. Indian players were seen wearing red caps along with spectators and members of the opposing team. Even the broadcasters and presenters involved in the Test match wore red outfits.

The red hat was to celebrate the Ruth Strauss Foundation’s #RedForRuth Day. The Ruth Strauss Cancer Foundation was started by former captain Andrew Strauss in memory of his wife Ruth Strauss, who breathed her last in 2018 after a long battle with lung cancer. Strauss started this noble foundation to help families with cancer. Members, especially parents, and non-smokers raise greater awareness of lung cancer. He also started the Ruth Strauss Cancer Foundation, a former Australian cricketer, in collaboration with Glenn McGrath. McGrath also lost his wife to breast cancer.

The money collected during the Test match will be used to assist families who have gone through the tragic death of their parents. The foundation will support children who face hardships after losing their breadwinners. The second day of the five-day Test series was observed as ‘Red for Ruth’ day.

He also mentioned that around 41,000 children lose their parents to cancer every year, and the foundation is focused on providing professional support to overcome their suffering and hardship.

England scored 182 runs in 65 overs for the loss of three on the third day of the series which ended on 16 August. For the series, the captain of the English team, Joe Root, scored a half-century. England are facing a target of 365 runs beautifully crafted by the Indian cricket team.
