Flames started rising after a fire broke out in the Saharanpur-Delhi passenger train at Daurala railway station in Meerut on Saturday, March 5, 2022.

A fire broke out in the engine and two coaches of the Saharanpur-Delhi-bound train on Saturday. In a video captured by the mob, it can be seen that the passengers shook hands with the railway staff to push the remaining bogies away from the engine.

A fire broke out in a train going from Saharanpur to Delhi at 5.30 am. When the train reached Daurala, about 90 km from its destination Delhi, smoke was seen rising from a compartment. RP Sharma, superintendent of Meerut City railway station, told news agency PTI that by the time the train reached Daurala station at 7.10 am, two coaches had caught fire.

He said that the passengers in these coaches were evacuated safely. There were no casualties.

A fire usually triggers panic but the passengers of this train calmed down and worked together to avert a major tragedy.

Several passengers carrying backpacks pulled the remaining coaches of the train from the burning area and smoke billowed in the background. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

Sharma said the cause of the fire is being ascertained.

There is no report of loss of life or property of any passenger. He said rail traffic was briefly disrupted due to the fire.
