An 18-month-old boy fell into a deep borewell in a field in Gujarat’s Surendranagar district following which a team of Army, fire brigade, police and health officials reached the spot and rescued him, officials said on Wednesday (June 8). ,

An army team took him to the government hospital, where his condition is said to be stable.

When did the incident happen?

The incident happened around 8:00 pm on Tuesday (June 7), when a boy named Shivam was playing in a field in Dudapur village, where his parents used to work as labourers.

Dhrangadhara administration official MP Patel said he fell into the borewell and got trapped at a depth of 20-25 feet.

Soon after the district administration officials came to know about it, they alerted the local disaster management cell as well as a team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in Ahmedabad, located about 100 km from the area.

Joint efforts of Army, Police and Municipal Corporation:

The local administration also sought help from the Army, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and the police.

After this, a team of army, police, district administration staff and villagers reached the spot. The officer said that they acted in coordination and the child was pulled out of the borewell by 10:45 pm.

The boy was then taken to a government hospital in Dhrangadhara town, from where he was referred to the district civil hospital for further treatment, they said, adding that the child’s condition is stable.

The rescue operation was completed 40 minutes after the army, police and other officials reached the spot, he said.

The team cleverly modified a metal hook and tied it to a Manila rope and sent it down the borewell. Within minutes the hook got stuck in the child’s T-shirt and the rope was slowly pulled out successfully.
