look | Conor McGregor is out of the Arena with an ankle injury during the UFC 264 main event

Dustin Poirier defeated Conor McGregor via doctor stoppage after the former dual-weight champion injured his ankle with seconds in the first round at Saturday night’s UFC 264 main event at a sold-out arena in Las Vegas.

The exciting fight between McGregor and Poirier had to be put on hold as the Irishman was not able to continue with his ankle down.

Dustin Poirier won the trilogy 2–1 after his sixth win over McGregor in six months. He is now all set for the next lightweight title shot. In the early stages, Poirier was mostly in control as he successfully made several attacks on the Irishmen before regaining control of the ground.

The cageside doctor had to call off the bout after a trade of punches and kicks, which left McGregor with a broken ankle.

“I felt something, for sure,” Poirier said. “He fractured her on a kick at the start of the fight, and then she broke it.”

When official ring announcer Bruce Buffer arrived in the middle of the ring to announce the final result, an irritated and furious McGregor was heard shouting: “Doctor Stoppage, Doctor Stoppage, Doctor Stoppage – tell them Doctor Stoppage! is.”

“I was boxing the bleeding head over him, the bleeding leg kicking,” McGregor said while sitting against the fence during a post-fight interview. The 32-year-old was soon taken on a stretcher for treatment.

“It’s not over. If I have to take her out…”
