Akshay Shinde has been accused of allegedly sexually abusing two four-year-old girls in the toilet of a school in Badlapur.

A mob of local residents on Wednesday attacked and vandalised the house of Akshay Shinde, the accused sweeper arrested for sexually abusing two minor girls at a school in Badlapur in Maharashtra’s Thane district.

According to the neighbours, the agitated mob of around 50-100 people entered the house and even attacked his family members.

As per the visuals shared by news agency IANS, a broken ceiling fan could be seen and utensils and other household items were seen scattered everywhere in a room of the house.

The accused lived in a rented house near Gamdevi temple in Kharvayi village in Badlapur (East), reported Indian Express. The incident took place while Shinde was in police custody, his neighbours said. “A huge mob of mostly young men, barged into Shinde’s house and attacked his family members along with breaking furniture,” said a neighbour.

Another neighbour said that a few of the relatives of Shinde who live in the vicinity were also beaten up. Both the families were forced to fled, he said, adding there were no policemen around when the incident happened.

Shinde has been accused of allegedly sexually abusing two four-year-old girls in the toilet of a school in Badlapur. The accused, who was working as a cleaner on contract via a third-party company, was arrested on August 17 after the girls’ parents pressed for a formal complaint despite an initial delay in filing the FIR.

A local court on Wednesday extended his police custody till August 26.

Meanwhile, the Bombay High Court has taken a suo motu cognisance of the massive protests that took place on Tuesday over the horrendous crime. A division bench of Justices Revati Mohite-Dere and Prithviraj Chavan will be hearing the matter on Thursday, Live Law reported.

Thousands of protestors on Tuesday blocked railway tracks at Badlapur station which caused massive disruption of local train services and diversion of some long-distance trains. At least 15 outstation trains and suspension of local train services on the Ambernath-Karjat section for ten hours, leaving thousands of passengers stranded.

The Thane Police have arrested over 70 people and registered a First Information Report (FIR) against at least 300 people for protesting and blocking railway tracks which left at least 25 police personnel, including the railway cops, injured in incidents of stone-pelting. Police have been deployed in large numbers across Badlapur to maintain law and order, and the situation in the town is back to normal.

The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition of parties including, NCP (SCP), Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Congress has called for a Maharashtra Bandh on August 24 as a mark of protest over the horrendous crime.
